Dr. Melissa Slavin, Ph.D.

Dr. Melissa Slavin is a licensed clinical psychologist at MindWell NYC. She specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Slavin has extensive experience working with clients who have experienced trauma and is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD. She also specializes in providing treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), substance use disorders, and behavioral addictions including gambling disorder and compulsive sexual behavior. Dr. Slavin provides online individual and group therapy via telehealth to adults at MindWell NYC.

Dr. Slavin also works as a research scientist at Columbia University. She is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the American Psychological Association. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national conferences in the areas of substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, sexual and reproductive health, and trauma.

Prior to joining MindWell NYC, Dr. Slavin completed her predoctoral internship at the Yale-affiliated Veterans Affairs Connecticut Healthcare System, where she provided individual and group psychotherapy in inpatient and outpatient settings for a wide array of mental health issues including substance use disorders, PTSD, sexual-related issues, mood and anxiety disorders, and insomnia. Additionally, she completed externships at the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Hospital, a community-based clinic, and several criminal justice settings.

Dr. Slavin earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University at Albany, and B.A. in Psychology from the University of Connecticut.
