Dr. Alexa Strelecki, Psy.D.

Dr. Alexa Strelecki is a post-doctoral fellow at MindWell NYC. She is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), and motivational interviewing (MI). She provides therapy to individuals across the lifespan, specializing with children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Strelecki has interest in and experience treating depression, trauma, relationship problems, and parenting concerns. She focuses on building trust and a strong, therapeutic relationship with clients, and creates an atmosphere that balances accepting the client for who they are and helping them make the changes they desire. Through evidence-based treatments and a collaborative relationship, Dr. Strelecki helps clients gain insight to better understand themselves and build skills to make lasting changes. Dr. Strelecki provides individual and group therapy at MindWell NYC.

Prior to joining MindWell NYC, Dr. Strelecki completed her predoctoral internship at Family Health Center at NYU Langone, where she was part of an interdisciplinary team providing therapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults, parents, and couples. She gained extensive experience treating trauma and PTSD. In addition, Dr. Strelecki has worked with individuals of all ages across inpatient hospital, community mental health, school-based, college counseling, and private practice settings. She has strong experience with adolescent/young adult populations, and a particular expertise in childhood trauma.

Dr. Strelecki’s dissertation research examined the impact of adverse childhood experiences, attachment, and social support on well-being in college students and adults. Dr. Strelecki is a member of the American Psychological Association’s Division 56: Trauma Psychology and Division 53: Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. She served as an adjunct professor in Marywood University’s Psychology and Counseling Department teaching developmental psychology and a guest-lecturer giving presentations on the treatment of depression in adolescents.

Dr. Strelecki earned her Psy.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Marywood University and her B.S. in Psychology from East Stroudsburg University.
