Dr. Gifford-Smith brings a unique and deeply informed perspective to her work, shaped by her extensive experience across diverse settings. She has conducted assessment and therapy in hospitals, outpatient clinics, schools, research centers, and therapeutic programs. In addition to her clinical expertise, she has spent many years in non-clinical roles supporting children’s development—most notably as a director of children’s day and sleepaway camp programs, where she designed and led inclusive, socially enriching experiences for children with developmental and behavioral differences.
Dr. Gifford-Smith earned her Ph.D. in Clinical and Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, where she worked on the Coping Power and FAST-Track programs. She also served as a Clinical Research Scholar at Duke’s Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy, contributing to the Safe Schools Project for at-risk youth. In addition to conducting neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations at MindWell NYC, Dr. Gifford-Smith maintains her own private practice specializing in evidence-based practices.
