Dr. Funk is dedicated to creating a warm, collaborative therapeutic environment where clients can explore challenges, set meaningful goals, and pursue lasting change. Her treatment approach emphasizes the individual, using evidence-based therapies tailored to each client’s unique needs. She is also passionate about attachment theory, evolutionary psychology, and neuroscience, and uses principles from these areas to enhance therapeutic work. Dr. Funk believes in the power of research-backed interventions combined with a strong therapeutic relationship to facilitate healing and help clients live a richer life.
Prior to joining MindWell, Dr. Funk served as a senior staff psychologist at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy, providing individual and group therapy for clients throughout the lifespan with a wide range of diagnoses and life stressors. She completed her APA-accredited internship at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, where she provided care in both inpatient and outpatient settings with an emphasis on treating trauma and co-occurring disorders. Dr. Funk also completed training placements at the Mount Sinai Addiction Institute, CUNY Graduate Center Student Counseling Services, and the Saltzman Community Services Center. Her varied clinical experiences across settings have afforded Dr. Funk familiarity with treating a wide array of disorders using a number of different empirically supported treatments.
Dr. Funk earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University and her B.A. from the University at Buffalo Honors College.
