Dr. Cara Weiner, Psy.D.

Dr. Cara Weiner is a postdoctoral fellow at MindWell NYC. She has specific expertise and interest in providing evidence-based treatments to adolescents and young adults with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, personality disorders, and trauma. She provides individual and group therapy to people of all ages using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

Dr. Weiner’s research interests include adolescent emotion regulation and non-suicidal self-injury, adolescent body image, and intergenerational transmission of pathology. Her dissertation was titled “The Impact of Parents’ Emotion Regulation Capacity on Adolescents’ Suicidal Ideation” and examined the relationships between parent emotion regulation, adolescent emotion regulation, and adolescent suicidal ideation.

Prior to joining MindWell NYC, Dr. Weiner was a predoctoral intern at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she provided individual and group therapies to a diverse group of children, adolescents, and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Weiner completed rotations within the hospital, including adult inpatient psychiatric unit, Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), and Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry. Dr. Weiner also completed psychology externships at Marymount Manhattan College’s Counseling and Wellness Center, Mount Sinai Hospital’s Eating and Weight Disorders Program, and Cognitive Behavioral Consultants.

Dr. Weiner earned her Psy.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University, and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan.
